Asaba, Delta – Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of vulnerable citizens with the resumption of stipend payments under the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme.
Between Thursday, October 16, and Friday, October 17, 2025, over 10,000 widows across the state’s 270 federal wards received ₦15,000 each, bringing renewed hope and financial relief to beneficiaries and their families.
The initiative, a cornerstone of the Governor’s MORE Agenda, aims to provide sustainable support and empowerment to widows across Delta State.
This latest disbursement follows earlier payments in August and September, when each beneficiary received ₦45,000, equivalent to three months’ stipends, demonstrating the administration’s consistent effort to alleviate economic hardship.
Speaking on the programme’s impact, Elder Isioma Okonta, Coordinator of the Widows Welfare Scheme, emphasized its broader significance.
"This initiative goes beyond financial aid; it restores dignity and gives hope to widows across the state," Okonta said.
He highlighted the scheme’s role in addressing the socioeconomic challenges faced by vulnerable women, aligning with the Governor’s vision to uplift the most marginalized populations
